10 April 2010
Theodore Roosevelt Island Cleanup
Theodore Roosevelt Island
Washington, DC 20036

Interested in helping the environment? Then be a part of the people-powered green machine that descends on Theodore Roosevelt Island Saturday, April 10th. We'll spend three hours picking up trash as we explore the island's 88 beautiful, wooded acres. The cleanup is a combination of pitching in to maintain TR's memorial and a very real embracing of his conservation legacy.

TR Island is located between Key and Memorial Bridges and is accessible by traveling west on the George Washington Memorial Parkway. It's also accessible via the Rosslyn Metro Station, walking toward Key Bridge and following the trail to the island. Volunteers are asked to gather near the registration table a little before 9 AM so we can get instructions and walk over to the island as a group.

Capital Area Chapter Annual Dinner
Le Chat Noir Restaurant
4907 Wisconsin Avenue NW

Save the date -- The Chapter's annual dinner will be held on Saturday, May 1 at Le Chat Noir Restaurant. Our speaker will be Joshua Hawley, author of Theodore Roosevelt: Preacher of Righteousness. Hawley's book explores the historical context of TR's politics, its intellectual sources, its practice, and its effect on his times and succeeding generations of Americans. This insightful book was reviewed in the Fall 2009 issue of the Theodore Roosevelt Association Journal.

Hawley, a former clerk for Chief Justice John Roberts, is an attorney in Washington. Copies of his book will be available for purchase at the dinner, which is a fundraiser for the chapter.
