Our nine contestants, five judges, family and friends of the contestants, school faculty and a contingent of volunteers all helped to make the first annual Theodore RooseveltŪ Public Speaking Contest at Theodore Roosevelt High School in Washington, DC, exciting and rewarding.
Contest Winner, Jose Mercedes, received $1,000, Second Prize winner, Jazzel Binning, $500 and Third Prize winner, Nigist Getaneh, $250. All three also received ribbon medals and all contestants received a certificate of participation.
Jose is a junior at TR High School and has pledged to help mentor contestants next year. Jazzel is a senior who plans to attend the University of Maryland and study accounting. Nigist also is a senior, and she plans to attend Purdue University, majoring in chemical engineering.
Our chapter was honored to embark on this public service initiative, and we appreciate very much the support of the following people in making it possible:
